July

Speeding

1 LW and VT have been down to visit places of work whose employees use vehicles travelling around the ward. They have talked to them 'formally' about the risks associated with speeding to themselves and others around them.

2 It is important that an accurate record of speed and usage is measured. One of the methods of this, is to use a 'speed counter'.

Parking issues on Priory Street

1 LW asked for comments on this priority. Non were given. LW spoke to the Road Policing Unit regarding blacked out parking signs in the area, no action can be taken by the unit to combat this. When the sign becomes defaced it becomes the responsibility of Lancashire County Council to replace them.

1 LW continued to add that all registrations of cars in the area have been taken and all cars parked have the necessary permits to park where they are.

2 To solve the problem in the ward of defacing of the parking signs, the firmest solution is to catch the people who are responsible

3. Juvenile Nuisance at West View Terrace, Connolly Centre and St Walburges

A question was raised about progress on Youth activity and the possible use of the Connolly Centre. Residents said several concerns had been raised about the discussion last month with regard to forming a youth club. An interesting debate took place about service provision and the risk of attracting youths from other areas however there seemed little sympathy for other neighbourhoods when it was suggested local children should use facilities elsewhere in the city. PC Pearson said he was still impressed by the youths efforts to address this issue for themselves but stressed these were early days with many obstacles still to overcome. The meeting was also reminded that there were very few local youths and there behaviour was largely very good
